Truth of CMJ and such other private universities in India

Friends,
I get lot of mails asking query on CMJ University, its validity, whether they should do degree and other courses from there or not and so on.
I have replied enough through my blog post
http://speakhr.blogspot.in/2011/08/list-of-fake-university-institutes.html

Then I thought to write a separate post exclusively on this issue. It will answer most of the questions.

Q.1 What is the status of CMJ University? Is it valid?

Answer: CMJ is a private university. Decade before, in our country only 3 types of universities were in existence
1. Central Universities- Established and run by Ministry of HRD, Government of India. These universities are excellent in quality and education. They are globally reputed. Few of the names are; Delhi University, Pondicherry University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Hyderabad University etc.

2. State University: These Universities are established by passing an Act/ Law in State Legislature assembly and founded, maintained and run by state Government. Few of the top Universities are : University of Madras, University of Pune, Mumbai University, Kakatiya University, Andhra University etc.

3. Deemed University: These were the institute who had enough capacity to run programmes in a specific discipline. They were either private sector or government established. In earlier days and now, they did excellent work. Examples are IITs, IIMs, NITs, Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), IISc(Indian Institute of Science) Bangalore, TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research), IIPS (Indian Institute of Population Studies), IIF (Indian Institute of Fisheries), Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani and Mesra Ranchi, Indian Institute of Mines, AIIMS (All India Institute of Management Science), Delhi and so on. Out of these IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, NITS are government established and very reputed whereas TISS, IISc, TIFR and BITS are private deemed universities with excellent reputation.

Earlier, private universities were getting only Deemed University status and it was done through Ministry of HRD and UGC through rigorous process. Then some decade back, the rotten UGC, Its corrupt chairman and members, corrupt ministry of HRD by taking huge bribe, started giving deemed university status to anybody. This lead to sudden cancellation of deemed status of almost 97 universities. But after that, internally matter settled and this deemed universities maintained their status quo including selling the degrees.

Then again wave of corruption started in 2004 where in Chhatisgarh, government passed a single Act and allowed to open shop of universities even in a room. Can you imagine a backward state in India, where state government does not have a single good or worth university had 134 universities within a month. Prof Yashpal who was ex UGC Chairman got aggrieved from it and filed a PIL in Supreme Court and Supreme court derecognized all the universities in Chhatisgarh established through this Act. All students lost their money, time and hope.

Then the various money hunger states come with new modus operandi to earn money by allowing shop of private universities. Instead of passing a single Act, they passed separate Act for every such private universities.
The top states are
1. Assam
2. Rajasthan
3. Tripura
4. Chhatisgarh
5. Meghalaya
6. Nagaland
7. Gujrat
8. Mizoram
9. Orissa
10. Punjab

CMJ University is one of such institute.

2. Is CMJ University allowed to offer distance learning programme?
Answer: No, DEC has not allowed it.

3. How is quality of education in this institute?
Answer: As per report, worst
Following links explain it well
http://in.finance.yahoo.com/news/education-scam-exposed--degrees-for-sale-.html?page=all

http://www.complaintboard.in/complaints-reviews/cmj-university-meghalaya-l241142.html

http://www.ifp.co.in/nws-2722-open-letter-to-cmj-university/

3. Does it has any value?
No

4. Can I get admission into any other universities and also abroad and can I use degree of CMJ University for government and private job?
As of now Yes but the problem is, day by day it is getting exposed. If somebody files again PIL against CMJ and such degree selling most of the private universities, these degrees may get derecognized and students will loose everything.

5. Can I get attestation on degrees obtained through CMJ University from Ministry of HRD for job abroad?
As of now Yes but the problem is, day by day it is getting exposed. If somebody files again PIL against CMJ and such degree selling most of the private universities, these degrees may get derecognized and students will loose everything.

Which are the other universities we can consider in similar bad category of degree selling universities and problematic area?
Answer:

Some of such institutes are: All Universities in North East, Vinayak Mission University, Lovely Professional University, EIILM University, (see link http://www.consumerforums.in/eiilm-universitys-big-frouds )

Please go through following link:

http://www.ugc.ac.in/privatuniversity.aspx

Except following private universities, all of other private universities are degree sellers
1. Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology
2. Nirma University of Science & Technology
3. Pandit Deendayal petroleum University
4. Apeejay Stya University
5. Apeejay Stya University
6. Jaypee University of Information Technology
7. Azim Premji University
8. Jaypee University of Engineering & Technology
9. Shiv Nadar University

So you can imagine, out of 145, hardly 9 are worth and none of these 9 universities have off campus centre or degree selling tactics.

You may post your query

It is an eye opener. Never opt this institute even for a full time courses. If you are just a degree buyer, you can go ahead.

    1. Hi,
The test to find out whether an institute is fake or not is as follows:
      1. Does it offer the course from a UGC approved university? If yes, fine if not then reject in first stage.
      2. If it is from a UGC approved university, the second stage is, it approved by respective regulatory body (For engineering and MBA- AICTE, for Medical- Medical Council of India, for Dental- Dental Council of India, for B.Ed, M.Ed.- NCTE, for Pharmacy- Pharamcy Council of India, for Ayurvedic, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Siddha- from Department of Aayush and respective council, for nursing- Nursing council of India, for Architecture, Council of Architecture for Aeronautcial- DGCA)
If it is approved then you can go ahead
      Otherwise no.

Now about Indian Institute of Business Management & studies:
It is not affiliated to any university in India and offering a piece of paper printing MBA on it.

IT is a fake institute beyond any doubt.

    2. Dear Sir,

      Thanks for your reply .

I am confused about my future, so I thought to tell you about my educational background and experience before asking you about any course I have done a B.SC in Hotel Management & Catering Technology from Punjab Technical University through distance learning in 2009 and after that I was getting some offers from Hotel Industry , however because of my unfortunate accident I suffered a bad injury in my right leg because of which I switched to international BPO as I was looking for sedantry job and I couldnt find one in Hotel industry and I started working in an International BPO.
I also gradually learned few things in SAP HR , as I have worked in SAP HR as I was in an HR PROCESS and we use to do all the data entry of HR in SAP.

So , now I want to move to a different industry or in a different department or different Line of Business like HR or Administration or may be in Corporate Communication .

If you could suggest me an MBA course or any other course which can help me to switch to a different job or different Line of Business in HR or Administration or may be in Corporate Communication

    3. Hi
Why don't you get SAP HCM certification?
It will cost you around 3.5 lakhs but you can get education loan on that too. If you do SAP certification from authorised partner like Siemens, Genovate, BPCL they offer assured placement too. It can give you initial package of 4-5Lakhs or more too (Depend on your experience)

See, none of the company will accept a fresher for HR or Admin or such other profile.
Above is one solution. Other option is: Ask your HR department for your transfer into HR department or such other department where you are interested and also tell them that to make yourself competent you can pursue MBA from good institute.

In my previous assignment, we used to allow people to move to other department and role subject to certain conditions.

    4. Dear Sir,

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply .

However, I think I am not eligible for SAP HCM CERTIFICATION because of my qualification as I have done B.Sc in Hotel Management.

I think for SAP HCM certification they require a domain experience of around 3-4 years and they are not counting my BPO experience .

So , should opt for an MBA in Distance learning in HR or in any other field.

    5. Hi
      The eligibility is:
To take any Functional module, you need to have a minimum of 2-3 years of industrial experience in the relevant business function. To take the technical module of SAP you need to be strong in programming concepts. Generally recommended to people with minimum 1-2 years of technical experience.
A candidate should also possess professional qualifications like BE/ B.Tech / MBA/CA or equivalent credentials.

Since you have entered SAP HR data is the system, I do not think there should be a problem
      Refer

Yes, you should pursue PBA from Pondicherry University or from University of Madras

    1. Hi
      IMT CDL offers PG Diploma

      Please note
IMT full time (Ghaziabad and Nagpur) has super corporate value but not the distance learning
IMT CDL's PG diploma is not from any university, it is a private diploma hence it is not equivalent to MBA. You are not eligible for any higher studies.
Amit will eat your money and does not have corporate value (only its full time MBA thats too from Noida campus only has value)
SMU's recongition is cancelled by DEC. It had paid huge bribe to ex IGNOU Chairman Pillai and quality is also not good.

Just to add "MBA", "PGDM" you may choose the institute however I do not recommend it for any learning purpose.

      You may choose following:
Executive MBA from FMS, Delhi (on weekends) visit fms.edu for details

MBA in distance mode from IGNOU, University of Madras and Ponsdicherry University

you may refer my following blogpost. It will be useful for you. Also you should read question and answer from people

  4. Hi Govind Sharma,

Would like to know if EIILM Sikkim bachelor degree can be used for government jobs or government colleges postgraduate admissions? EIILM DEC approval expired in 2010. I took admission in 2009 and got all three year marksheets starting from 2009 first year to 2012 final year. Are my marksheets valid for the period 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 because government jobs demand one's courses should be approved by DEC for the all academic years of the courses if pursued under distance mode. My institute says your EIILM degree does not mention it is a regular or distance degree so they say think it as regular and you are eligible for government jobs or government colleges admission for further studies because it is otherwise UGC approved. I know their strategy is good and so they are making business. I have tried to search on search engines but could not find one who got government job based on EIILM degree or maybe I am too impatient. I am confused Mr. Sharma, please guide!

    1. Hi
Since you have completed your degree after the DEC recognition expired, you may not be eligible to apply for government job. But I still wonder whether they really bother to check about it and on the basis of what

You can still keep applying to government job.

As you have clearly mentioned that the do not mention this as a distance learning degree, please ensure that they do not mention it on your migration certificate, transfer certificate, convocation certificate and insist them to issue a certificate mentioning that you have completed your programme in regular mode.
Then there will be no problem at all

      Delete
    2. Mr. Govind, assuming the EIILM degree to be regular (since it is not mentioned regular or distance in the certificate as also asserted by institutes), one can apply for govt job or apply for further studies in some central or state government colleges, right? sorry to bother you again!! I have more doubts and questions that arise every now and then and i would without hesitation come here and take advice, I hope this won't be a problem for you in replying my (coming soon) questions. thanks in advance

    4. You are definitely right that others would save themselves by our discussion. I just made a mistake by getting into EIILM. I had a big gap after my intermediate, was working, was planning to join open learning at IGNOU for undergrads, found my friends going EIILM, so followed them...now m often afraid that govt colleges could deny admission for postgraduation OR govt jobs would too deny jobs. BIGGEST fear is that what if I even got selected for some govt job and when they sent my docs for verification there is some other story unfolding, per se EIILM people reply to my govt job place that student was enrolled as distance but like i said DEC approval expired in 2010, WHAT THEN, will they fire me out, then i have maybe or maybe not a relief that maybe EIILM have applied for reapproval which is under process so my organization would not FIRE me....ANOTHER biggest fear is that if i took admission in some college for postgraduation on the basis of bachelor degree from EIILM and when the college sent my docs for verification and same thing like i said approval expired 2010, though could be under renewal process, college could cancel my admission and forfeit my fees of thousands to lakhssss WHAT then..........i can do nothing. What do you think Govind....right now i hve two things on my mind which are appear for various govt jobs or join some govt college for PG on the basis of EIILM undergrad degree.........

    5. Hi,
in private sector, the problem will not be that much once you get the job.
In public sector- Yes. People face lot of problem due to such degree.

About higher admission: please note that DEC approval is required only for Job. For admission to any institute
      1. The degree should be from a UGC approved university
      2. The university should be member of AIU )Association of Indian Universities)
so do not worry about your higher education.

you can do both things- do post graduation and apply for government job.

My maximum focus is about exposing these degree selling universities and not to create panic situation but I am also trying to make aware everybody about the future consequences.
Thumb rule: Take little pain and do little hard work now to save from the lifetime stress

      Delete
    6. Good to see your reply quick enough! Your point that degree should be from UGC approved university for future-study admission is in contradiction a bit as almost all the universities, e.g. BIT Mesra and GGSIPU, demand that candidate bachelors course should be approved by DEC throughout the academic years if candidate pursued the same in distance mode (you can even check these two universities 2012 and latest 2013 admission notifications), so if i take admission on the basis of current degree (assuming REGULAR degree), they would of course send my docs for verification, they would find out that student did it distance and approval of the graduating college (EIILM under distance mode) for the period of study was expired after 2010, would they cancel my admission or what is the likelihood going to be?? What do you think things like this have a chance to occur, if yes, how could I save myself? Could you please if you can explain a little how verification takes place for the docs by universities for newly admitted students? maybe i am assuming verification is a hardcore process so i might be at risk....at the same time i feel it just a lenient process i might come out safe…………..big confusion!!

    7. Hi,
I got your point. Actually DEC and UGC as well as all regulatory bodies are corrupt and useless.

See what the ministry of HRD circular says:

The Dept. of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India notified vide the Notification No. 44 dated 01-03-1995 published on Saturday, April 8th, 1995 in the Gazette of India that:
“on the recommendation of the Board of Assessment for Educational Qualification, the Government of India has decided that all the qualifications awarded through Distance Education by the Universities established by an Act of Parliament or State Legislature, Institutions Deemed to be Universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and Institutions of National Importance declared under an Act of Parliament stand automatically recognized for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the Central Government, provided it has been approved by Distance Education Council, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi – 110068.”
In view of the aforesaid directive of the Government of India, it is mandatory for all the Centres/Institutions/Directorates offering programmes through distance mode to apply to the DEC and obtain prior approval before starting a new Centres/Institution/Directorate or Programme.
It is informed that any degree/diploma/certificate offered through distance mode not recognized by the DEC shall not be accepted for employment in Government Services and the institution offering such programmes would face de-recognition.

1.Here. nowhere the circular says that DEC recongition is mandatory for higher education. It is only for job.
      2. It uses word like university institute established by parliament and state legislature and institute of national importance (IITs, IIMs) then how non university institutes like SCDL, Welingkar got DEC approval?

I do not think you will face any problem as the degrees to you is not provided by any external agencies, it is through university only. Just don't forget to insist on a certificate of completion/ migration clearly mentioning your degree is full time

      Delete
    8. Do you know personally anybody who did some course from EIILM related institutes, got distance/regular (as not sure) degree and now working in some government organization OR took admission in other central or state government colleges for further studies. It would be helpful!

Who knows CMJ will be de-recognized one day

    2. CMJ and EIILM even provide engineering kind of technical course, are those valid? As according to law, universities (private/state/central) do not need prior approval by AICTE for starting technical courses but need to maintain standards (which is secondary thing) BUT institutes need prior approval of AICTE to start technical courses, right?

    3. I also read your RTI letter to DEC, and wow really there is a whole lot of denial of information. Mr. Anil Karwal is just enjoying a government job position and wants to enjoy till he last breathe why to BOTHER much in replying RTI questions, especially when some person has asked so many questions and need big big explanations with supporting documents too......Mr. Govind have you asked director of DEC what penal action is going to be/or has been taken against Mr. Anil Karwal for his nonsense act??.........well well well........sometimes I just FEEL shame to be an INDIAN because of people like Anil Karwal.....you i am sure were truly astonished to see RTI reply, ain't it?

    4. Hey Govind put your input on both of the above questions plz..thanks

    5. Well, answer to your question on enginerring degree from EIILM and CMJ- no it is not valid.
following blog will give you more clarity
      http://speakhr.blogspot.in/2013/01/career-question-and-answer-distance.html

AICTE is clarified that even the supreme court judgement say so it clearly says "prior approval" is not required to start the course but supreme court has clearly mentioned that all the conditions need to be followed as per AICTE, so it is clear that any institute cannot take AICTE as a granted.
AICTE has stopped all engineering distance degrees and even state government university KSOU has got showcause notice.

About DEC, they provide wrong information and the appeal has also yielded nothing. I am planning to file a PIL. No penal action against PIO. PIO is just a coordinator. The main culprits are chairman and other committee members.
Recently I got a mail that a student from Patna completed degree from Singhania University Rajasthan (like EIILM and CMJ) this university is approved by UGC as well as DEC
Still LIC refused to give him promotion saying this university is not the member of AIU
Ministry of HRD's circular says that DEC approval is required for government job and only this is sufficient. Now see, by creating such things, they are playing with student's life.

Just now somebody in my FB friend list contacted me and during chat informed that his/her friend bought Ph.D from CMJ by paying 2 lakhs Rs, he did nothing to clear Ph.D.
      Educations are sold like this.

    6. EIILM is listed in aiu list as of 1.4.12. Which recognition is big AIU or UGC? Which govt orgs demand AIU/UGC or AIU and UGC together approval for govt jobs or further colleges admission? Govind, how can i find persons who got govt jobs based on EIILM degree, is there anyway??

      Delete
    7. UGC give recognition and AIU is just a membership. AIU can give maximum equivalence status of a qualification
Ideally, it is better to to pursue any qualification from a university which is established by central or state government only (specially when you pursue distance education)
You can keep posting so somebody who has pursued degree from EIILM and got government job
I pity on you that despite of knowing the fact that this university is involved in degree selling still you want to buy the degree instead of earning.

    4. You apply for Visa then see. Basically, US accept only 4 years degree or a masters degree from India
They prefer NAAC accredited A grade university and reputation of the institutes.
No need to feel down, you should have thought about long term prospective before buying degree from CMJ (As it is now known to everybody that to get a Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D degree from somebody just need to pay money no need to do hard work)
You apply and see what the embassy replies

  11. Is there a way to know EIILM is giving distance or regular degree, as institute says it is not mentioned (regular or distance) in any of the docs student's gets after completing degree from EIILM. Considering DEC is useless and corrupt, one should consider UGC to be the most supreme body for validating a degree, right? Arvind, let us suppose, one gets government job in a govt sector in the year 2012 or 2013 (let's call this govt job XYZ) who did degree from eiilm (session 2009-12) while living/residing/sitting in Banglore. This XYZ would send students docs for verification and would find that DEC approval expired for EIILM in 2009-10 and student still applied for the job. What would this XYZ do on finding this? Because student is not to blame for DEC approval of EIILM because it is EIILM's duty to consistently update its DEC approval status for every year, student took admission in EIILM as it was recognized by DEC at that time. what are the likely future happenings?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. First of all,

You never attended a campus (even did not see it) so technically it is external/ distance degree
UGC is the supreme body, no doubt but what is it doing to stop malpractices in education, nothing? UGC is equally corrupt.

DEC clearly says that its student's responsibility to ensure that their degree and institute both are approved for the entire degree duration period from DEC. EIILM is knowing this still selling the degree
So whose fault is it- it is of both buyer (EIILM) and seller (student)

Does DEC approval mean that universities can provide courses outside the parent state where it is located?.........According to UGC, private universities can provide DEC approved courses only within its state boundaries, so this means even distance degrees of EIILM and CMJ are not valid in other states so why people are doing it? Are not they aware? Many of them are very much aware so why still they r doing it? Why some people ASPIRING FOR GOVERNMENT JOBS after knowing above facts STILL join EIILM or CMJ? Are not they aware they could be caught? Do not they fear that one day these degrees would lead them to end up in a court? Are they complacent that everybody is corrupt so they would come out clean and it would be too late before this could even get highlighted?.......huh india and its education!!! how is my theory, govind?

    1. Hi
      Thanks for your input.
Yes, actually private and deemed universities are not allowed to offer any programme outside its jurisdiction in fact initially it was decided that the deemed and private universities should not be allowed to offer of campus and distance learning programme. The decision was good. But money changed the game and by huge bribing (what can be other reason to let these degree houses to sell degrees) now they are allowed.

EIILM has faced de-recognition from DEC already and CMJ never got approval from DEC but still in the name of corporate tie up it is selling degree (you even do not need to study th subject, degrees at 40 Lakhs, MCA 1 lakhs, Ph.D 2 lakhs in 6 months you get the degree)

Actually, problem is lack of ethics in we- the people. We want everything in short cut. Education is just a joke. You know every year lakhs of people are made fool in the name of MBA, engineering, B.Ed etc. Most of them wants stable, secured job. First they buy degree, then they buy job and when matter comes to court (as in case of professor Yashpal V/s Government of Chhatisgarh) these dream buyer loose everything, time money, degree etc.

    1. by section 2(f) UGC allows a a college to grant/ confer deemed to be university status.
12 (b) is used to give grants to such deemed universities/ colleges with autonomous status

      * The UGC had notified Regulations for recognition of colleges under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. The colleges are brought under the purview of UGC in terms of these Regulations as and when the proposals are received from the colleges for inclusion under Section 2(f) and they are found fit for inclusion as per the provisions contained in the Regulations.

** Apart from inclusion of colleges under Section 2(f), the UGC includes the Colleges under Section 12(B) of its Act in terms of Rules framed under the Act. This makes the colleges eligible for central assistance from the Government of India or any organization receiving funds from the Central Government.

    1. Hi,
In India universities are of following types

Central Universities: These are the universities established by passing an Act (like any Law) by Parliament i.e. Loksabha and Rajya Sabha). It is always under ministry of HRD, government of India. They get 100% grants from UGC and always much better in quality.
      Examples are:
      Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi
      Delhi University
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)
      Banaras Hindu University
Allahabad University (not Allahad Agricultural Institute)
      Pondicherry University
Always, president of India is chancellor/ visitor of such universities. They have national jurisdiction, have lesser control of UGC, they can affiliate college, can offer off campus programme etc.

      State University
These are the university established by State Government through state legislation (by passing an Act in state Vidhasabha like any other law). These are fully controlled, managed by state government. Always, Governor of the state is chancellor (head). They also get full or partial fund from UGC. They can affiliate any college, can have jurisdiction within few districts. To offer any programme outside their jurisdiction, they need to take prior approval from UGC
example: University of Mumbai, University of Pune, Bharthiar University, Anna University, University of Madras, Patna University etc.

      Deemed University:
These are the colleges which has infrastructure and benefits to offer unique courses. They cannot offer all courses. Deemed status is given only for the courses for which they have enough infrastructure. They cannot offer franchisee, they cannot offer off campus centre, they cannot affiliate any college. They have to offer courses within their premises only.
Earlier, they were not allowed to use word "university"
      Reputed deemed universities are:
      BITS Pilani
      Symbiosis International University
      TIFR
      TISS
      IIPS
      NIFT etc.
However they have become another degree selling factories (except above mentioned and few other institutes)

      Private Universities
Actually private universities meant for public private partnership to impart quality education in India. In such scheme somebody with lot of money propose a private university, approach state government and after due verification state government pass such private universities Act and they become legal.
Some of them are really doing great job like Ajim Premji University, Shiv Nadar University, Jindal International University and few name I have mentioned in my blogs rest (almost 93%) of them are selling degree like anything. CMJ, EIILM are just two names, there are hundreds. They are not allowed to offer any distance learning courses, not allowed to offer any courses outside their premises, they cannot appoint franchisee for their degree. EIILM is such one private university.

People in India, does not want to acquire knowledge, they simply want to buy degree. PRofessors, lecturers buying degree from CMJ by paying 2 lakhs. They even do not know meaning of thesis
      This is the truth

    1. First of all, it is known fact that EIILM and all such similar private universities (CMJ, Jodhpur national, Jaipur National, MG Shillong, Assam Downtown and so on) does not impart knowledge, they just sell degree. Even if somebody does not have capability of pass, by paying money, showing backdated entry they sell the degree

Second, DEC approval is required only for government job for higher studies it is not mandatory

Third: It is logical behind not allowing deemed and private university to offer distance learning and admitting large no of students through off campus as they do not have that much resources.

Fourth: EIILM and all these private universities have violated the conditions to earn money by selling degrees,

Fifth: DEC is most corrupt and useless body. They contradict everytime. DEC should be scrapped and only UGC should monitor these universities (Even UGC is useless and corrupt but at least little better and it will not create confusion amongst students).

Your degree is invalid for government job only. for higher studies it still stands valid and so for private jobs.

    1. Hi
Both MCA and MBA are completely different field.
MCA is more about computer programming, developing software and handling systems. It is good only if you have enough logical reasoning, clear thought and love to work with systems continuously, if you love with mathematics, probability then of course MCA is not difficult otherwise, it is very difficult.
When we talk about MBA, it is more about learning basics of management, finance then mastering in a specific skills. It is more about running a business, understanding different tools, studying it and implementing in your job role. So if you are not very good in mathematics and not too much into logical reasoning then MBA is for you.

Number of job are available for both but only if you do it from well reputed institutes. In India, if you do MBA from more than first top 40 institutes, you may not get job easily and same happens for MCA and qualification abroad too.

About job stability, if you are an excellent performer and have exceptional skills, then definitely your job is stable, if not, even if you are an IIM grads, your job is not stable.

For government sector job, only quality you need is to able to crack their job selection examination (say civil services, staff selection services, IBPS, CDS or any other exam) if you can do this, you can get job and for most of the government job, only graduation is required.

MCA is not a 10th or 12th standard exam where you will get mark for steps. It is more about solving technical problem related to system and software.

you can check syllabus of a typical MCA prgoramme from reputed institutes like NIT from following link

    1. Hi
It depends. For instance one of my friend completed distance learning BCA and MCA. Initially they did not get job easily and started with meager 4000 Rs per month in a very small company. Slowly both of them enhanced their skills and employability. Then joined 3i infotech, then IBM and cognizant.
Even I am not a completely full time degree holder. Still I am heading HR for one of the world's greatest company to work, an MNC.

Yes, it is true that TCS and Infosys do not entertain distance learners but there are many companies and why MNC only (I am not criticising them as I am part of it), there are many Indian companies too who provides lot of opportunity irrespective of your college status (full time or distance).

Again, Infosys or TCS does not take distance learner only at fresher entry, for mid-term experienced, they never say yes or no

  48. Hi Govind

Good to read your input. However i beg to differ from you at least in one case that you have mentioned. I am talking about Lovely Professional University. Having worked at LPU for two years as a faculty members, i want to inform you that their teaching practice and pedagogical aids are of very high quality. They have a huge pull of faculty members from IIT/NITs and other elite school. And the audit part is the most significant one. Each class room is equipped with a CC TV camera wherein faculty member's each action is noted and actions taken due to non compliance. I still remember faculties are fired just because they entered 5 minutes late in class or left the class 5 mins early. In addition there are always regular surprise visit of HODs/Deans etc in your class.
The allegation that LPU sells degree is purely baseless. I tell you thousands of students fail every semester because they cant coupe up with the pressure. My earnest request to you would be to talk to any LPU student and ask him about his plight.

I dont work with LPU any more. In fact now i am working with a national institute. And its my honest confession that the academic practice that LPU follows, my present institute would not able to match even 10% of their standard.

However, let me be straight, its only due to non availability of good student, that a serious institution like LPU cant produce excellent result as they get students who dont get into any premier institutes. Contrary, these premier institutes even though they get top class student, they mostly fail to deliver the result.

I dont have any relative working in LPU, but its only a matter of gratitude towards my previous employer. Govind, please visit LPU and spend a day as a student, you will really have a tough time man. No wonder, after so much of effort these student dont get ample employment, as these institutes are not SO CALLED premier institutes in the eys of India INC.

    1. Hi Ujwal,

Thanks. I hope this is not written for the purpose of advertising LPU. I am allowing your comments as I felt that your message should also go to the people. I agree to your points too. However, we cannot compare LPU (on the basis of inputs you have given) + few (hardly 9-10 private universities) with other degree selling universities like CMJ< EIILM, Mahatma Gandhi Shillong, Jaipur National, Jodhpur National, Singhania and so on.
I will definitely follow your advice to visit LPU.

May be this is a brand building phase for LPU. Further, I suspect LPU in 2 ways
      1. The huge amount it is spending i advertisement which gives me feeling of its commercialisation (and final burden will be on students only) 2. Its immediate starting distance learning programme (most lucrative business for any universities- SMU and PTU are largest beneficiaries), still it is one sided view of mine. May be LPU has its own plan.
All the best to LPU and I am sure, if this university is putting honest efforts, it will emerge as a great institute.

    1. Hi,

The topic is not relevant to your posting.

It is not like that there is no job in the market. If an engineer can pass civil services, he is one of the best talent available in the market and for such people there are enough job opportunities.

You should not say that government job is exclusively for arts and commerce students, it is for all.
      But the question is:
Engineering seat is costly and there are hardly handful quality engineering institutes like IITs, NITs and JNTU. it is wastage of a talent. If an engineer opt to do administrative job then he is wasting the valuable seat. Same things happens in IIMs too. Investment banker is a shit, a way to play with people's money (who has a lot) and after getting engineering degree, people opt MBAs to become investment banker which deprive a student who is highly and purely interested in engineering only. The blame to be on our education system, our mentality not to others.
A long debate can happen over it but this post is about money game of private universities who are selling degrees.

      Thats all

If you opt CMJ, you are doing biggest mistake and will regret in future
      1. What is distance learning - you are not attending a full time lectures, studying on your own and giving exam. does CMJ's method differ from this definition?
      2. Being a private universities, CMJ is strictly prohibited to offer any course outside from its campus then how can it?
      3. CMJ purely sells degree. you can read my all blog post which expose CMJ well. You will never learn quality from there.

      You should opt
      1. IGNOU
      2. Annamalai University
      3. University of Madras

Sir i have completed my hsc in 2007 and then discontinued my studies because of financial problem.I m currently working in a BPO,my friend told me about CMJ but after reading yiur comment now i m confused from where to pursue the degree for future as i dont have enough time to run in universities for each and everything.please suggest me if i want to work in IT sector only certifications in solaris, linux, microsoft will do or graduation is mandatory.

    1. Hi
More than whatever I wrote, people's comments are enough to expose CMJ, EIILM and other private universities. Its your decision to pursue or not. If you just want to buy a degree easily, you can opt CMJ but in terms of reputation and knowledge gaining, you must not

For working in IT sector, you must be a graduate and preference comes like
      1. Engineer
      2. MCA
      3. BCA/ B.Sc. (IT)/ B.Sc. (CS)
If you would like to opt MNCs, preference will be to full time graduates from good institute otherwise for smaller companies, they may accept a distance learner too.

To gain something, you must be prepared to sacrifice a bit. However busy you are, you must be getting time few hours in a week.

If you have studied mathematics and 10+2 level, best option is to opt B.Sc. (IT) from IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning), University of Mumbai
You just need to go once for admission, once to collect exam form and to appear for exam. Apart from this on Saturdays and Sundays for lectures and practicals. (To get quality this much you have to do anywhere and if you want job in IT, you must be an IT graduates), it costs hardly 50,000- 60, 000 for entire course and reputed degree from a reputed institutes like University of Mumbai

If you do not have studied mathematics at 10+2 level, then you may opt BCA from University of Madras as well as Annamalai University. They have study centres in Bhandup, Kurla and Wadala in Mumbai as well as all over India.

You may look IGNOU as an option too. Here, you can apply online, make print out, attach certificate and send. so without leaving job for a day you can take admission however, IGNOU is very tough in terms of cracking exam and they have assignment as well as compulsory practicals.

If you opt any other graduation programme from any of the universities above, you may need not to attend practicals but that may not help you to secure a good job in IT sector too.

Most possibly no as MNCs have the list of MBA from where they can accept students. However on the basis of your own ability and competencies you may be able to get the job.
For embassy applications too, that embassy should have approved the university. For example, Australian embassy has rejected CMJ student's application (as reported)

In one of your blog archive i read that you are advising to pursue a distance learning course like MBA from state or central universities. The problem that i am finding to do so is that as per DEC approval list almost all the state open university's recognition have already expired or are about to expire. And as such DEC says it is compulsory to ensure the recognition validity till the entire duration of the programme makes the situation even grave. What is your input regarding this issue. To go ahead and pursue without bothering about such recognition validity or to pursue it from private universities whose recognition is valid for next two years?

You will face the problem only if verification happens and the institute / government companies have in depth knowledge about this wrong doings. How can a university offer a full time degree to a distance learner? Thats why I always advise people to opt courses from State or Central universities only.

You take in writing from EIILM a later stating that you have undergone full time course their campus and if you get it, you will not face any problem

if not possible then opt distance learning MBA from University of Madras, Pondicherry University etc. only.

  61. 34 PRIVATE VARSITIES RUN ILLEGAL STUDY CENTRES
Monday, 15 April 2013 | Deepak Kumar Jha
    Source: Daily Pioneer
    http://www.dailypioneer.com/todays-newspaper/34-private-varsities-run--illegal-study-centres.html

A number of universities are engaged in running a racket of opening study centres across the country in violation of their prescribed territorial jurisdictions in alleged connivance of the Government authorities.

While the regulatory body — University Grants Commission (UGC) — has listed 21 universities as fake, there are about 34 established private universities which have been flouting norms and operating beyond their permissible jurisdiction. Some of them are using the name(s) of famous personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi. Presently there are a total of 154 private universities governed by the UGC (Establishment of and Maintenance of Standards in Private Universities) Regulations, 2003.

A top official in the HRD Ministry said that the Ministry was aware of the racket and will soon launch a joint crackdown with nine State Governments. One such case, which the UGC has been probing for the last five months, is about Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) ‘operating’ from North-eastern State of Meghalaya. It has opened several study centres across the country by flouting norms laid by the Centre, State and UGC.

“It has violated all norms and opened study centres beyond its territorial jurisdiction. Located at West Garo Hills, the MGU has not been authorised to run courses beyond the State of Meghalaya as per the regulations of Distance Education Council,” said a HRD official.

It depend on what decision comes from government and UGC. IF they derecognize the university the degree also becomes de-recognize.
As of now, government is planning to issue a showcause notice to universities (29 private universities) violating the UGC norms MGU Shillong is one of them and possibly CMJ too.

About Visa, see, they also consider work experience in liue of degree then I do not think you should face a problem.

First of all do not get panicked.

Second, you apply to Australian universities for admission and Australian embassy for visa and see what happens. Possibility is that now they might have added CMJ into their approved institute list.
YOu know it better that how easy to get a degree and Diploma from CMJ, it is just a money game.
Further, CMJ is not recognized by AICTE too.

About Indian universities too, I do not want to say straight forward No as I have not tried it, but the fact is that other colleges/ institute will ask
whether it is approved by state board of technical education and AICTE.
It all depend on those factors

I always suggest people to choose a state or central university over a private or deemed university. The reason is very simple, the state or central university has higher acceptance than a deemed and private university. further, in India deemed and private universities (mostly) are crooked and violates various norms. They are always suspicious. Shobhit is not allowed to offer any programme outside its territory and it has not got a full DEC approval- it is subject to visiting committee and verifying.
      Opt IGNOU instead

Nobody is bothered to worry about your graduation degree so placement should not affect. Also, placement depends on several factors like your communication, personality, HR and interviewer's perception so you need not to get scared.

EIILM was approved by DEC till this year and if you have completed degree before that you will get it

Is BScHNT valid if done from MGU, Meghalaya?

    1. If it is a full time on campus regular degree, it is valid for higher studies as well for government job.

Delhi High court has already issued a notice to MGU shillong and Ministry of HRD is planning to take action on all such private universities

    2. Thank you for your quick reply Sir. I am now giving a description of the current scenario.
I am now 36, living in Kolkata and working in a job role of Service Engineer (Hardware and Networking). As I do not have any Degree after XII, I am just planning to enrol in that course today. I have searched a lot for similar type of course in distance education (regular courses will not suitable for me considering my age and I am a working professional) but I got only 2 options - BScNT from SMU and BScHNT from MGU. SMU told that they have stopped enrolling for this session. So I have decided to go for the later one. But as I was not completely sure, I started to search for more info today and kept digging and digging. Suddenly your blog opened in front of me. It opened my eyes and I got the info of such universities like CMJ. Now I got the opportunity to get a suggestion on my queries. Should I throw every other options and opt for a BSc.or BCA from IGNOU (as it is acceptable everywhere) or can you suggest for any other course suitable for me? I would like to prefer for a Bsc. Degree on my working field or if not available then any other Bsc. Degree on I.T. field. Please suggest.
Sorry for taking your valuable time Sir.
      Thanks.

    3. Hi
BCA from IGNOU is a good option but very tough.

you have many other good options too

Annamalai University has exam centre in Kolkata too and it offers BCA, B.Sc. Computer Science and I guess course in hardware and networking too
It is approved by DEC too
In Kolkata they have exam centre at:
      Annamalai University
      19, Sardar Sankar Road,
      Behind Lake Market
      Kolkata - 700 029
      Phone: 033-24667215

University of Madras also offers BCA, B.Sc. Visual Communication and BBA (Computer application), they too have exam centre in Kolkata

      check
      http://www.ideunom.ac.in

I think both Annamalai and Madras is good, in terms of their reputation and course

    1. It depends from company to company and your own individual competency. For my company which is one of the most preferred employer, I will not.
Because I am aware how people are buying degree from CMJ and an individual who cannot put efforts to earn a degree sincerely, cannot be sincere in the job (Its my individual perception and other people from industries may or may not agree to me).

    1. but there is written for approval for EIILM 2009-2010. Is it by mistake written coz as far as i know provisional recognition is for 3 years? DEC says they recognize institutions not their individual courses but initially they used to give recognition to both i.e. institutions as well as their courses. what is DEC's latest norm of approving universities or their courses??

      Delete
    2. please refer dec.ac.in for norms

No, DEC recognize institute as well as course

EIILM recognition was withdrawn from this year

    1. To get job in foreign country, first of all your English should be excellent and you should be able to communicate well in English
If you cannot then getting job in Indian companies in India also impossible

Your second question's answer is already given above

No english, no job anywhere for IT field and an MCA holder at least

There are many equivalence, it is called MS, M.Sc and no on.

    1. MGU is under scanner from government for violating the norms. It has got DEC approval but only to offer distance learning courses in Shillong/ Meghalaya

It cannot franchise or cannot establish any study centre

As of now its degrees are valid for government job
