Suggested management and self help book- must read book for business management, success and wealth creation

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

Reading is an integral part of our life. Those who do not read everyday, become obsolete and lack of creativity. More we read, more we feed our mind with the information. Our thinking, our decision making ability, our communication, the way we put things forward, the way we speak and our behaviour are guided by the kind of materials we read.

Just imagine, we are reading negative news, negativity , negativity, negativity and negativity- where will it lead our thinking? Would we be able to think in positive manner? Definitely not. We have to decide what we want  and accordingly what we want to read. Usually, I read 3 to 4 books in a month and I really do not remember how many hundreds book I have read but these books have immensely helped in shaping my career, shaping my thinking and my way. Right from the beginning at school level (although whatever taught in the book and the way teachers were behaving were contrast to each other)

I am writing about few of those books here which may be helpful for you for managing your day to day job and also for self improvement.

Gora

Rabindranath Tagore, First published in 1910.
This novel revolves around nationalism, truth, relationship, love, patriotism and revealation. After reading a chapter you will crave for more, it drives intense curiosity. The main character of the story is Babu Gaur Mohan @ Gora- the protagonist, his closest friend Vinay Babu, Sucharita etc.

Gora is the main protagonist of the novel. He sometime cannot take decision whether he should listen to heart or the principle he has set for himself.. He looks completely different from his Brahmin father, Krishnadayal. For him, feeling proud on the root he belongs is more important. Within this stubborn there is a person who has lot of love for people, for friends and for family.

What is to learn from this classic novel: Leadership quality, communication- how to communicate confidently and how to maintain self esteem. Whether it is protagonist or other character including Vinay (Binoy) or Sucharita- from all one can learn the skill by imagining self in that particular role.

The Immortals of Meluha and The Secret of Nagas

In both the books, one can learn in form of Shiva and in the form of Brihaspati how to lead  people, what quality a leader should possess, how a leader should communicate and how a leader should take decision. This is not just a fiction novel , actually it is a teaching.

Why we want you to be rich

This book is written by  Robert T. Kiyosaki  Donald J. Trump. I was travelling in the train and somebody was selling this original hard bound book at just Rs. 100. I immediately bought it and this book is definitely a good source of knowledge, motivation and self help. It exactly tells the nature of wealth and why one should make a clear decision for safeguarding one's financial future.  This is must read for everybody who are working and who are thinking to be an entrepreneur.

The saint, The surfer and the CEO

From Robin Sharma, this is another master piece. From a son who is admitted in a hospital next to his father (son does not know that he is son of the person next to him) this story starts and how the father arrange experience of son with a saint and a surfer and a CEO. This is very useful for those who are searching meaning of the life.

The Monk who sold his ferrari

Another master piece from Robin Sharma. It tells, money is required but money is not everything in the life. Know your life.

Rock and Roll Jihad

It is about Junnon- The Pakistani band who rocked 1997's pop era and was extremely popular band
I bought its first cassette in 1997 under EMI records Azadi. It was a very different genre. I liked their song "Sayyoni", "Yaar Bina Dil Mera" "Khudi", "Lal Meri Pat", "Meri Awaz Suno" and later "Mitti", "Dosti", "ghoom Tana" "Yaar Bina" and other songs. I was fascinated to know more about it, then realised that the band broke and one day luckily got in touch with Salman Ahmad through twitter. He suggested me to read the book so I ordered this book and every chapter was a learning.

What to learn: Follow your passion, follow your love, even people criticise you do not waste your time on answering them back on same way, rather focus on whatever you are doing. His passion for cricket, then passion for guitar and the rockband which he folllowed despite of death threat, his dream band broke but he did not stop singing and finally produced "Ghoom Tana" along with Shubha Mudgal and his latest song is Naya Pakistan made for his friend Imran Khan to chnage political situation in Pakistan. This book tell us how to struggle in the life, why not to give up. He is a doctor but he followed his passion first- singing and earned both name and fame. He still practice as a doctor, work as a lecturer and as a activist too.

count your chicken before they hatch

This book is written by one of the most corrupt educationist Arindam Choundhary of the great education scam IIPM. You must be wondering if I am criticising him so badly, why I am writing about his book- Well, let us keep separate these two things.
The book is really good and worth to be read again and again. (he might not have written this by self). I liked the line when he says "when something is done first time people say that it cannot happen, then people see that it is happening and finally people wonder how it happened" so this tells experiment, do not fear what people think. You just focus on whatever you are doing.

The Secret

Frankly speaking, I feel the book is exaggerated when it says you can get whatever you think, actually it makes you over optimistic without guiding on other aspects. However, this book fill us with full of optimistic view and if we follow fully from heart and put our all efforts realising our limitation too, it helps us a lot. One example, I never thought to focus on how many people should read my blog. In 3 years span, it had few thousand, then I gave myself target that in 6 months, more than 1 lakh people should read this. Then I started sharing my knowledge one by one. To my surprise, within a month, this blog passed more than 1 lakh view and now it is getting attracting almost 1 lakh reader in a month. The simple truth, you imagine, you believe you can do it, you put your all efforts, all means all no compromise on that and amazingly you see that it is happening. The secret is all about power of belief and how much efforts you put. Read it, follow it and you will get it. Exactly the way Rock and Roll Jihad.

I have a dream

This book is from Rashmi Bansal. This is another most inspiring book for those who wants to be an entrepreneur who wants to follow the passion and those who want to do something different for the society. Whether it is Dhruv Lakra who has started Mirakle Courier to support deaf community or Shaheen Mistry leaving US and coming to India to bring a change at young age- its all about passion and hard work or Arvind Kejriwal. You will find it interesting and inspiring.

Kautilya Arthshastra @ Chanakya Niti

Actually, we need not to go anywhere to find a scientific management tool, it is here, in our Indian route. Kautilya's Arthashastra even written thousand years back, it is still relevant today.

One of the quotation from his book Arthashastra is:

"If a king is energetic, his subjects will be equally energetic. If he is reckless, they will not only be reckless likewise, but also eat into his works. Besides, a reckless king will easily fall into the hands of his enemies. Hence the king shall ever be wakeful."

Now just replace the word king with CEO, Manager, leader  and subject to team member, peer, colleague and understand his teaching. Is not it really wonderful? Yes, it is.

Look at another example

"Before you start some work, always ask yourself three questions - Why am I doing it, What the results might be and Will I be successful. Only when you think deeply and find satisfactory answers to these questions, go ahead."

Bhagvat Geeta

Bhagvat Geeta is not a religious book, it all tells people about their Dharma i.e. duties and the right action. It helps in decision making when we are in most confused state. Although I have not read it completely, but whatever I have read so far is impressive.
Let us see  one example:

Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Six Verse - 36
"asamyatatmana yogo
dusprapa iti me matih
vasyatmana tu yatata
sakyo ’vaptum upayatah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Six verse 36)

Meaning : "For one whose mind is unbridled, self-realization is difficult work. But he whose mind is controlled and who strives by appropriate means is assured of success. That is My opinion."

So, this particularly focus on controlling one's mind which is a self management tool. When somebody read the entire Gita, they enrich themselves with various knowledge.

The Alchemist and The Bitch of Portobello

Both the books about search your soul, follow your passion, travel and meet people to know more. It helps in our imagination power and the happiness and joy we get after getting what our soul want. My friend Poornima Balya recommended The Alchemist to me and I am grateful to her.

Thats all for now. I will add more book list. Please add your comments
