Mumbai University Distance MCA 2014 entrance exam and admission announcement - process and detailed information

Hello Friends,
I usually get query on which is the best or a good institute to pursue MCA in distance learning. We know the issue with IGNOU. No doubt, its curriculum is stringent, very good but being a tag of “Open” University, few private corporate do not accept IGNOU’s MCA. This is unfortunate and sad too. I believe, IGNOU’s programmes including MCA is much better than many full time conventional university’s MCA. Name it any universities from Bihar, name it Shivaji University, name it universities from north east, many private universities, universities from MP, Chhatisgarh, UP and Uttarakhand who are extremely poor in quality. knowledge wise IGNOU is much better.

MCA is a detail and practical oriented course. While offering the course, a university must ensure that it has all required infrastructure; there should be compulsory weekend classes. Then only it makes sense.

Here is the notification from University of Mumbai for admission to its MCA programme. Please go through it.

Frequently asked questions
1.       I am an arts graduate (BA) studied mathematics at 10+2 level. Am I eligible for MCA
Yes, you are eligible. The criteria is any graduate who should have studied mathematics at least upto 10+2 level.

2.       I have opted different career but I am not happy with it now. I think I should opt MCA to get a better salary. Is it a good decision
I don’t think so. IT is such a sector where your knowledge and experience in a specific skill set matters a lot and your job growth depends on this factor. However, if you are planning to make career in teaching, then there is no harm to opt it.

3.       Do I need to attend regular classes at Mumbai University? Where is it conducted?
Yes, for MCA you need to attend classes on Saturdays and Sundays at its Kalina Campus, Santacruz East.

4.       How good is University of Mumbai in terms of students support?
Its very bad, extremely poor. You are expected to run here and there to sort every single issue. Nobody will respond to you over the phone or over the email. Long back in 2006, I raised this issue to Dr. D Harichandan during a paper presentation about distance learning who is now Director of IDOL but it remains same. The staff are without courtesy- a typical government clerks so expect least from them. However, to get a university of Mumbai tag on degree and to make your recruitment and selection easier, you should opt this institute.

5.       I am graduated from other university and now working in Mumbai. Am I eligible for MCA from Mumbai University? What other process I need to follow?
Yes, you are eligible if you have studied mathematics at 10 + @ or higher level.
You need to keep ready your transfer certificate, degree marksheet of all 3 years, degree convocation certificate, and migration certificate. You need to apply for eligibility certificate.

6.       I have 2 years degree, am I eligible to apply ?
No. The degree should be of minimum 3 years duration.

7.       I have obtained 1 sitting degree, am I eligible?
No, the degree should be of minimum 3 years duration
