University of Mumbai, Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) admission starts from 25th June 2014

Hi,

Universities of Mumbai is one of the oldest, well known and prestigious university in India. It is awarded as 5 star status by NAAC. It has lost its erstwhile reputation still it is one of the well accepted and known university in India.

IT has started admission for various UG, PG and diploma programme.

There is no additional or new course this year. However, online registration is mandatory.

Admission date: (without late fee): 25.06.2014 to 31.07.2014
(With late fee): 01.08.2014 to 16.08.2014

The dates are tentative and may change

Admission process: Online application then printout + original documents need to be submitted at designated centre

Courses offered: In the jurisdiction of Mumbai University only i.e. Mumbai, Thane district, Raigad- Panvel to Karjat, Alibaug, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg District only.

Is it a very student friendly for distance learning: No, not at all. It is worst. However, degree from this university is one of the safest and most acceptable.

Is the exam process same for regular full time college and distance learner: No, not at all. For UG courses, exams for first year and second year is conducted and awarded by the college. They also provide internal mark, viva and entire book is splitted into two. Half book is taught upto September and half book upto March. Passing from regular college of this university is very easy. If you are going for tuition with the teachers in the college, you will surely clear the exam (only around 10-15 colleges are exception) and passing regular course is much easy but distance learning is very tough. First, second and third all year exams  of distance learning, University of Mumbai only conducts exam. IT covers full book hence passing the exams are at least 4 times tougher than passing from a regular college. Considering this, I will say, distance learner of University of Mumbai are better than those from regular colleges (except handful reputed colleges, others even do not bother about attendance and marks are given like freebies). There will be no project, no assignment, no viva for distance learners (except computer science).
Exams are held usually during April- May. Staffs are very unfriendly and has attitude of typical government clerk.

  14. Hi, Govind! I'm an ex - student of IDOL studying in F.Y. Can you answer my questions below?
    (1) Does regular colleges themselves prepare the question papers for the under graduate courses(F.Y & S.Y) or they are set by the University of Mumbai?

    (2) Third Year(T.Y)/Final Year question papers for all courses are same for IDOL students and regular colleges or IDOL students are given different question papers?

    (3) Why are ATKT rules different for IDOL students and regular colleges, even if IDOL is part of University of Mumbai?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. hi,
      1) Yes, college themselves create question paper for term 1 and rerm 2 of each year upto second year and even they only issue mark sheet. Mumbai University sets question paper only for 3rd year (sad, thats why in Kanataka, Mumbai University degrees are not accepptable for B.Ed)
      2) Syllabus for third year is same for regular affiliated college/ university department as well as for distance learner for Mumbai however, for affiliated college and regular students, there will be internal assessment marks (for which teachers are incapable to assess; students copy from wikipedia and submit to the college and college ensure students get maximum marks in this internal marks) in final exam, IDOL students have to answer all 100 marks whereas regular college students need to solve only 60 marks

      3) ATKT rule is same for IDOL students as well as regular students

      Delete
    2. Hey, Thanks for your replies. So, passing in T.Y should be much easier than F.Y & S.Y at IDOL. I feel like under graduate courses at IDOL are much more difficult to clear out than in regular colleges.

      Delete
    3. Yes, thats true
In colleges, usually teachers already reveal IMPs to their students specially those taking tuitions with them, things manipulated and the book is divided as half- half for each term and then too, they decide only which chapters to be taught. Whereas in IDOL you have to study whole book for whole years for FY SY as well as TY
Passing degree from IDOL is much difficult than passing from an affiliated college (only few handful reputed colleges are exceptions)

      Delete
  15. Hi, I completed FY & SY in IT thru regular college but in Sem5 (2 years before) I failed and discontinued. Is it possibl to join IDOL for third yeAr only. When are the exams are conductied? Is dat in semester mode or yearly . As now credit system implemented from this year how my marksheet appear also doea it mention distance learning in marksheet. Or possibl to complete. Tay in old syllabus

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi,

You can take admission of B.Sc. IT 3rd year
The exam is in annual pattern
You have to appear under new syllabus but I do not think there will be much difference

all the forms has to be submitted online. You also need to submit online TC form and university will directly collect TC from your college so do not worry
Your parents or any friend can collect study material by showing fee payment receipt and I card you need to give them an authority letter.
